Turmeric Golden Smoothie Bowl

Turmeric is definitely one of my favourite spices… It lends a unique flavour, is so versatile from sweet to savoury and is a nutritional powerhouse long used in Chinese & Ayurvedic medicine, thanks to its high curcumin content. However, did you know that it is not very bioavailable to us… meaning it’s benefits are hard to reap. Unless you use it with a sprinkle of black pepper! The Piperine in the pepper assists absorption, so you can enjoy its immune regulating, antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antiviral, antimicrobial, antioxidant, detoxifying effects. Try this golden smoothie or smoothie bowl to power up your morning and get a heavy dose of the good stuff into your day. Note: I like to use 2 tsp of turmeric, but if you are new to turmeric, perhaps start with 1!

Ingredients

For: 1
  • 1 small banana
  • 1-2 tsp ground turmeric
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1 tbsp tahini
  • vanilla vegan protein powder
  • 1/2 cup almond/coconut milk
  • 1/2 cup filtered water
  • 1/2 cup ice
  • pinch sea salt
  • pinch black pepper

Instructions

  1. Blend all ingredients together, using less/more ice or liquid, depending on desired thickness. Top with your favourite crunchy toppings!
